Whats on Your Workdesk Wednesday 148? Unfinished business

Hello fellow desk hoppers.  There is lots to see on my desk today.  I have a spare shelf from my paper rack on my desk (well it is kind of buried under lazer cuts that I have bought to use as masks) to protect my cutting mat from the heat tool because I keep causing bumps and have to put the whole thing in our lovely South African sun to flatten it out again and after the CC101 class (where I have discovered that I am as impatient as Tim) and having had to do this sun thing once too often, I have opted for a heat shield of sorts that I can put my non stick craft sheet on...

Then you will see a "Mac Gyvered" poster tube with a slit in it to fit the cup cake cases that I am sending a friend of mine.  I could not find anything that they would fit into that was not tooooo big or in this case, just too small.  I will have to tape up the gap and then tape on the caps so it is all secure again.  I have been procrastinating over this for 6 weeks and need to get it off my to do list!

Then you will see the pile of tags from the CC101 class with Tim.  That was an amazing experience and one I would do again if he ever decided to do CC102.

Then bang in the middle of my cubbies, I have stuck my WOYWW badge so kindly sent to me by our Hostess Julia from Stampin Ground.  I will wear it proudly on my pinny when I go do my demos and see if anyone recognizes it...

So now before I rush off to work, I am going to peruse a few desks over at Julias place...see you there.

Thanks for the visit

Bella

  1. Love the forensic science involved in getting a few cupcake cases in the mail! Who'd have thought it!! Hey girlie, you need a glass mat...I have one and it changed my (embossing) life...and cutting actually.. I blogged about it way back, will see if I can find a link for you so you can at least see what I'm blethering about!

  11. Ah, yes, bumpy cutting mats - I also have that problem, as I make my own bookcloth, using heat bonding. I bought a "heat-proof mat", but it just let the heat through and the cutting mat still went bumpy! So I invested in a cheap ironing board cover, which I can unroll, lay on my table-top, then put away when I'm done!
I'd recommend a heat-proof glass kitchen cutting board as a heat shield for your desk - much cheaper than a glass cutting mat and also useful for inks and other stuff too (I use one for inking up when making lino cut prints).
I came over from WOYWW and I'm happy to have found your blog. Happy Wednesday (or probably Thursday by now with you!).

  13. lots of fun things on your desk today! I saw some of the cake cups at the store a few days ago and almost bought them but...I rarely bake and was to narrow sighted to see another use till now! Thanks for the great tip of putting the mat out in the sun to flatten it out again as mine has gotten fairly wavey and I was going to purchase another. Oklahoma sun is hot too so we'll try that! 15. Bella, I have warped so many green cutting mats by heating them - the non-stick craft sheets may be heat-proof in themselves but they offer NO protection for what's underneath. I recently got an ultra-heat proof mat from
    http://www.presspahn.com/Cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=12
Not sure if you can get this sent to S. Africa, or whether there's an equivalent local distributor. It was not expensive, and it's totally brilliant. I now have: green mat, Cogetherm mat, non-stick craft sheet, and I can heat and heat with impunity - no more damage!!! Highly recommended. I have tried using a glass kitchen mat with little feet, but even that didn't stop hot air radiating downwards and warping my mat. My new mat is resistant to open flame to 1,000 degrees C, and also has very low thermal conductivity so will protect anything underneath.

Love your masks! I am in the process of designing masks and stencils in Inkscape, and cutting them with my Cougar cutting machine. They are so versatile, and I'm looking forward to trying some new techniques with them. Hope you are successful with yours.

Thanks for your comment on my blog! Like your title, most of mine is "unfinished business"... What's new!!

    Happy WOYWW,

  16. Thanks Bella for your kind thoughts. I am amazed at how creatively you have solved the postal problem. You are always a very clever crafter. Love all the bits and pieces on your desk. I do sympathise with the mat heating problem. Could it be that we are all way to impatient when it comes to crafting.
