What's on My Workdesk Wednesday 280? Double page layout

Hello fellow desker from Julia's place over at Stamping Ground.  Welcome to my desk in Cape Town, South Africa.
Here is my desk in all its designing glory...this page has been 2 months in the making and it needs to be ready for the first week-end in November!  Why is it that some pages come together like a dream and others feel like they are never going to amount to much?  I keep taking it out and playing with it and perhaps finding another gem of an idea I can add and then putting it away cos it just does not have the "wow factor" yet!  Now it is staying on my desk until it is finished!

I am teaching Art Journals this week-end and that class thank goodness is planned, prepped and kitted!  PHEW!
These are the base of each page and the cups will be going on the one above it, an idea I got from Vicky Papaioannou's Blog where she gives an awesome video on how she created her page.  I have created a cut file for these cups as I need to kit for 10 people who I know wont be able to draw and make their own cups like she did.  So I have used her concept, but my page will look very different.  In order to teach the techniques, I have prepped my journal and finished the right hand page so I can demo the left hand page in class.

At some late stage on Sunday...this is what my desk looked like while I finished sample pages in my journal to show class...nearly every ink on my desk!

  3. I wish I could come too! That journal looks great! I'd love to learn how to use those inks. I have a few of those (like Vintage photo) and use them to distress edges. It's obvious one can do much more....
Your page looks beautiful to me! What's wrong with it? Still waiting for the wow factor?
Thank you for letting me peep over your shoulder.

  5. Your pages are stunning, I'd be had pushed to pick a favourite but I know exactly what you mean about some projects just going together almost on their own and others being difficult. You'll get there I'm sure.
Good Luck with your class, that is a lot of work in itself, prepping everything but your students will appreciate all your hard work I'm sure.

  8. The layout looks good to me. Sometimes layouts take me forever too. I tend to put them in a box for a couple of months and then look at them with fresh eyes.
    Happy WOYWW

  11. Hi Bella, hope that you manage to complete that double page layout soon. I have much the same problem with all my layouts ... they take me forever before I feel even mildly satisfied ... we're just too picky, I guess. I have a giveaway on offer so do check out the sticky post at the top of my blog. Have a great week, Elizabeth x #53

  12. It looks great to me, but I know we are always our own harshest critic, and see things others wouldn't. I hope your class goes well, and that you have a lovely week. Hugs, Chris # 16

  19. Ah... self-imposed deadlines! I am working towards one, too! I love what you are doing, Bella - those pages are stunning - great backgrounds. I hope the teaching goes well. I am sure everyone will have fun!

Thanks for your visit and your nice comment. We are all doing more or less OK at the moment, although I am not having that good a day today, but I'm always exhausted the day after going out! As for bargain hunting, I'm always on the scrounge for alternatives to "proper" art materials and was recently given a large piece of roofing felt which has all the properties of fabric-type Tyvek! I look for texture makers in all sorts of places and have often bought cheaper stuff from cake decorating shops and florists! I'm also always on the scrounge for things I can make moulds from, so raid charity shops for junk jewellery, and cheap clothes if they've got interesting buttons.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  23. I'd love to find out how to do journals like that, maybe you could show us how one day. I know what you mean with your project. I often have to put a painting away and then keep getting it out or leave it where I can see it in passing. That always gives me ideas on improvements.
Have a great week and have fun doing the workshops.
