What's on My Workdesk Wednesday 229? Test runs and stuff

Hello fellow Desker from Julia's place
Today I show you my desk over in a sunny Cape Town, South Africa where there is a lot of not much going on...

I got a new die (mini film strip and tag) yesterday and test ran it through my Vagabond, then I also got a Dylusions ink spray pad which I have tested with the only two colours I own.. with my go to stamp of the fabulous flourish by Tim...
Here is the inside of a card I made and blogged about yesterday so won't go into the details, but you can see the purple bird house on its side at the back of the desk which was one of the prototypes...

So this is me this week.

Thanks for the visit.

Going Coo-coo!

Hello there
I got a bespoke card order for a lady called Gretel who is Swiss.  The request was for a card with a coo-coo clock.  After pondering this idea for a while, I decided to use my birdhouse die by Sizzix and turn it into a 3D card.
I printed a coo-coo clock off the Internet and cut out the bits to stick on the die cut house. I also printed just the pendulum and the weights on the inside of the card onto which I stuck the house after having given it an extra fold down the centre.
The house is folded down the centre so that it will collapse when the card is closed.  I only stuck the coo-coo and the clock face to half of the house so that it will flatten out when open.
Here you can see how the house flattens inside the card as it closes.
This is another view of the folded house inside the card.

Thanks for the visit

My take on Liane's Challenge

A fellow teacher up in Jhb, Liane van Harn put out a challenge on her blog:
To use her layout above and make it your own.  Here is my take on her page.
I decided to make all my own paper and embellishments, so here it is from start to finish.  This is a photo heavy post so bear with me...
This is the plain grey paper with the black in the centre to measure where I must stamp the grey paper to mimic her patterned paper.
Above you can see the stamped image using Tim Holtz Wallpaper stamp with White Distress Paint with the bottom row covered in Iced Spruce Distress ink.
I cut this stencil on my Silhouette cutter and started at one end of a half sheet of cardstock and repeated the pattern to make my own paper.    You can see the finished sheet below.
I then made my own Chalk board embellie using the technique I learned in Tim's CC102 class.
I set about making my own strips for above and below the photos using Tim's On the Rail road set of stamps.
Here you can see the layout coming together
I die cut two strips from Tim's Vintage lace die to mimic Liane's edge under her photos.
Then I made my own tags and stamped them with the woodgrain stamp in the same set as the wallpaper one of Tim's
I also stamped a piece of card stock with the same stamps and cut the title out on my Silhouette.  The word ALL is from Tim's Block Talk Alphabet die.
I embellished the page using a tag I had made for one of Tims challenges earlier in the year and made some more little ones to match to add to the page.

Thanks for the visit

I hope you enjoyed my step out photos of how I made my page.

CC102 Chalk technique

Hello there

I've been playing with the Chalk technique from the course I did with Tim Holtz called Creative Chemistry 102 and love how this stamp turned out.
I am getting into Christmas mode and thought I would start with a tag seeing as Tim won't be doing 12 tags this December as we have already done 10 this year.
This tag has got his Tattered pine cone die, distress paints, flourish stamp and the sentiment was from His Joyful Song set.

Thanks for the visit

What's on My Workdesk Wednesday 228? CC102 tags

Hello fellow desk hopper and snooper from Julia's desk over at Stamping Ground, welcome to my desk in Cape Town, South Africa.

I was rather busy with Tim Holtz's on line course last week and here are the tags I made, each with the instructions on the back for refering back to at a later stage.

I then challenged myself to use as many of the 30 techniques I learned during the 5 days on ONE Scrapbook page and this was the result.  It took me a total of 7 hours to create all of this and you can see a step out of all the bits in the post below.  I managed to use 25 Techniques in the end!
Thanks for the visit, now I am off to see what I can see in your craft space.

CC102 Personal Challenge

Well, I decided to set myself a personal challenge today to see how many of the 30 techniques I learned in Tim's latest on line class called Creative Chemistry 102 (CC102 for short) I could squeeze onto one scrapbook page!

The answer is 25!

Here is how I started:
I chose my 3 favourite Distress inks ( Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon & Mustard Seed) and that was my jumping point.  I also went for a nature theme and stuck to leaves, organic shapes and butterflies as much as I could.
Then some more stencil work
Finally a finished base page:
I set about creating all the embellishments with as many of the techniques as I could...at this stage I was thinking that I should maybe make it a double page layout!

Here are some close ups of the final layout showing some detail.
I have used 5 different techniques on the butterflies seen below.
I hope you enjoyed seeing the results of 7 hours at my desk, broken only to go make lunch for the family!

Thanks for the visit

CC102 Day 5 - Embossing

This has been the fastest and busiest week of my year...well that's what it feels like anyway!  Friday was the last of the master classes on CC102...Monday is just a fun day, but one to be looked forward to anyway as a wrap up of a lovely course.

Here are my tags for the Embossing, though I think my chalk one needs some practice, or a smaller stamp.
I also played with using micro-beads on the sticky embossing powder and they worked a real treat...here is my sample.  I have always struggled to use them on projects where they don't fall off or the glue is not too raised and bumpy.
I realised when I posted this that I had not done the shabby tag yet, so here it is!

CC102 Day 4 - Alcohol inks

Here are my tags for today.  Loved learning new ways to use them.

CC102 - Faux Cracked Glass

There used to be a saying in my house that "if anything sits still long enough, Bella will ink it"  now the saying will be..."if it sits still long enough and is clear...it will get fake cracks!"
I am in love with this technique that I learned yesterday in day 3 of the Creative Chemistry 102 class with Tim Holtz (you have to have done 101 first to qualify to do 102)

Can't wait for today's class

Bring it!

CC102 Day 3 - Distress

I am just loving this process of learning something new each day.  CC102 has been a fabulous way to stretch my creative boundaries, ideas and processes...I am SO ready for tomorrow, and the next day and the next!  Bring it on Mr Holtz!

What's on my Workdesk Wednesday 227? CC102 fall out!

I have been looking forward to CC102 since the day it was announced and Tim has not disappointed!  What you see here is after day 2 and the fallout that needs to be put away before today's class starts!

So this is my desk, now I am off to see yours.

CC102 Day 2 Stencils

OK, so now I am back up to speed and LOVING IT!  Tim has really packed so much into each day that it really is a wonderful creative marathon to do each tag.  So good for the soul!  I have done 6 of the 7 tags for today and will finish the last one after I come home from teaching my evening class.

CC102 Day 1

Hi there

Can't believe that the day I have been waiting for since the announcement that Tim was doing round two of his Creative Chemistry class was the BUSIEST day of my life, so I am playing catch up quickly before day 2 arrives!

Here are 4 of my tags and the other two techniques are busy drying on my desk!
Thanks for the visit

Prima Doll Stamps

I have been dying to get my inky paws on these stamps and now I have 5!  I have been making samples for the store, but could not resist a Christmas version.  I used the hat from a father Christmas stamp and cut it out to add to the Prima Doll.

Here are the shop samples:

October tag of Tim's 12 tags of 2013

I can't wait for the 7th October for the start of Tim's on line class called Creative Chemistry 102!  So I decided to make this tag in honour of the upcoming class...the clock has wings to try and make time fly...

As usual it is the process that has been followed of Tim's tag, but not the dies or theme!  We don't really celebrate Halloween here in South Africa.
Thanks for the visit
