Hello there fellow blogger
Thank you for hanging in there while I went AWOL and decorated a restaurant...
I am going to try and take you through the whole process from start to finish which will take a few posts. About 16 or 17 posts... It could take a few weeks which will hopefully make up for my absence!
It all started back in March this year when I was at my favourite coffee shop called Truth where I did my first steampunk art installation in January.
I was meeting a friend there and had some of my decorated hats with me to show her.
A lady called Jenny happened to be in a booth near by and came over to ask if I would be interested in decorating her friends restaurant in Stellenbosch that she had recently purchased and wanted to make over into a steampunk theme.
I went and met the owner Sabine, took before photos (as seen below) and measurements and came up with a few ideas...
Then I went shopping in China Town and Mambo's plastic store to find all the items I would need in order to make fake vintage items.
My next stop was my local hardware store where I placed an order for 6 cans of copper spray paint. I thought that would be tons... little did I know that I would be back at least once a week for the next few months for a few more cans each time!
I made friends with the guys in the plumbing department at Builders Warehouse as they soon realised the lady with the pink hair was buying stuff that water would never stay in and was causing a stir!
My favourite store discovery was the Rope Shop where they were super helpful with all sorts of things like how to tie off rope neatly and all together brilliant service. They made the high tension wire for me to hang my air ships off at short notice too. I bought all sorts of things from them for boats that were perfect for airships! So much so that when I sent my hubby on an emergency run for more "port holes" they new immediately that he needed the waterproof hatches! They were so on my wavelength!
These are the hatches with the Christmas ornaments as the port hole cover.
