Butterfly tag

I thought I would add a photo of a tag I just finished for a challenge over in my Creative Chemistry 101 challenge for June....I work best under pressure...can you tell...deadline is in just a few hours!

I used my new set of Spring Distress colours for this and they are just so yummy to work with.

Thanks for looking.

More Finnabair inspired canvasses

I designed a hanging triptych for a kids class and decided it was too simple for me to leave as it was for home...so it got a dose of what I now refer to as the Finnabair technique.  Anna is her name and she is just so inspirational in the way she puts objects together to create art.  I watched her stream live the other night for Prima and it was just such fun.

I ripped off all the stuff I had put on the canvasses for the kids class, spent about 2 hours going through my stash and adding stuff to the canvasses to create a swirl of flowers and the like from top to bottom together with some stunning lazer cut chippies from a local company called Celebr8.  They are R16 each and come to about 1.5 Pounds or 2 Dollars.

I set up and recorded my first Ustream video today while I did this, but it would seem that there is a line down between us here at the end of the earth at the bottom of Africa and the rest of the world.  So the audio and video was very stilted and WAY behind where I was in real life...so much so that Minxy was still watching me "live" when I had finished and cleaned up!

I will have to try something similar when the techies have got us back up and connected properly to the rest of the world again...

So here is the before, during and after photos:  My hubby was quite keen on me leaving it as it was without the black spry paint, but the colours were all a bit too much in my opinion and anyway, the sprays are the fun part!

WOYWW 160 ATCs and marblepaper

Hello there fellow desk hoppers from Stamping Ground. I am so very late today, in fact it is 8pm here in South Africa as I write this, I usually do my WOYWW upload 12 hours ago, but this morning I was at the Doc with a nasty sore throat...the pharmacy, then off to teach my class and home to bed.  I slept so much this afternoon that I hope I sleep tonight...the pretty pink rub ons a get well gift from my hubby that he brought home with dinner tonight.  So thoughtful... flowers that will last!

Another angle below so you can see the glitter in the H2Os and the depth and textures on each one,.

Well, FINALLY I can put up a photo of all the ATCs I got for the 156 swap.  My Pass it forward friend Gabrielle had to send me another one as the first one has gone AWOL in the mail.  I was really hoping it would turn up eventually, but alas, no luck as of yet.  Luckily she made more than one so could re-send.

My actual desk tonight is covered in the left overs of a creative afternoon I had with the kids (my son and his friend from round the corner)  yesterday during a rainy day in the School Holls.  I have seen the results on line of Marbled paper done with Shaving foam and decided to give it a go.  Here are a few tags and some sticky backed canvas I have made with the process.  It really was lots of fun and I can't wait to create something with these backgrounds...truth be told I really wanted to do it myself so I got the kids involved as a way to keep them busy too!

Also on my desk are the Color wash sprays, Tim dies, buttons and glitter foam that must get packed for a Holiday workshop (picture below) I am running at the Scrapbook Factory shop this Friday morning.

Thanks for the visit.

Tim Holtz Idea-ology triptych

Ok, so I am now officially smitten with Finnabair's work on her blog.  She uploaded a page called Tim Holtz - Journey and I thought I would also create something using as much of Tim's idea-ology range as possible.  This is a one off for sure as the products cost a fortune and I normally eek them out across as many pages and projects as possible, but seeing as I had dinner with the man last April 2011 and I have not yet gotten round to scrapping the event, I thought I would do this triptych in his honour.
I painted the sides of 3 6"x6" canvases black and added his color core paper to the tops of them and using the Graphic 45 hinges I joined them all together.
I started with his resist kraft paper which I punched randomly and inked with Distress inks in Walnut Stain, Spiced Marmalade and Barn Door.  I gave each one a splat of Picket Fence Distress stain and dried it quickly so that it stayed nice and white.

After gluing this onto the canvases, I set about adding the idea-ology.  The final touch is the Rock Candy Crackle paint that I added randomly to each canvas and set aside to dry.

Below are the close ups of each canvas.

Enmarc Challenge 24

Over at the Enmarc site there is a challenge to use one of their products and this sketch for a card.  I had an order for a card for a 44th wedding anniversary, so I thought I would take this opportunity to enter the challenge.  I have used the outside of the Dividers: Curls for the right hand boarder strip and the corner is from Jumbo Page Essentials: Mama's Lace.  The rest is all Tim Holtz Distress inks, rosette die, date stickers and heart die as well as the game spinner from his ideaology range.
Here is my desk during the process...not too chaotic as I did a huge clean up today again.  It seems to have to be a constant event on the week-end after a busy 7 days at my desk in between!

Thanks for the visit.

WOYWW 159 Multimedia Canvas

Hello desk hoppers from all around the Globe.  Today I show you what my floor, desk and temporary desk looked like after coming back from teaching a class, so read into that, kitting up for a few days before hand and trying to get a few important things like Father's day cards made too...

Then here you see me being inspired by a wonderful lady called Finnabair.  You have to go to her site to appreciate how versatile this artist is from canvases to scrap book pages.  I  saw a canvas on Minxy's blog that I think was too inspired by this lady and I set about taking apart an old printer that was on its way to the re-cycle yard (though it got a bit pilfered first before it got there...thought I would start the re-cycling at home...)

Here is the beginning, the middle and the end...well I think it needs a bit more metallic paint, but I am going to look at it for a few days before I add to it.  You can see the inspiration stuck up in front of me.

Now to go to Julia's desk to peek at what you have been up to lately.

Thanks for the visit

Video on how to ink a piece of a stamp

Hi there

I thought I would have a go at a video after a few of my students struggled with only inking the middle word on a stamp, I had a "light bulb" moment during class where I thought to use sticky tape to block off the areas you don't want to print while inking up.  I found that masking tape worked brilliantly as you can re-use it over and over again.

I don't have a video camera so I have filmed this little clip using my Blackberry...

Here goes...

Tim Tag class at Scrapbook Factory Shop

Hello there

Today I was back at the Scrapbook Factory Shop to teach Tims April and May tags.  You can click on the month to go to the real deal on his blog as I had to change things up some what to be able to mass produce the tags for class.

We had lots of fun and learned so many new tricks and Shrink plastic is now on every one's wish list!

Thanks for coming out to play today...

Laura I did not get a pic of you in the end with your pretty make up today, instead I was blinded by your sidekick's shopping who did make me a shade of green with all her yummy new Timmy stash...I really think the next Colour Green that Tim invents should be called Jealous!

Barbs and part of her Tim stash she invested in today...

Yvette and her finished tags

My Mom and Daughter team

Shop owner Caroline and one of her staff, Lettie, doing their finishing touches.

Whats on My Workdesk Wednesday 158? WOYWW stuff

I have had a busy week teaching and demoing and generally having painty, inky fun...but the most fun has been watching my post box for the arrivals of the ATC swaps from the 156th post of WOYWW.

You see I did a few extras and so did my name sake Belinda Fernandes from the USA, Yvonne from Australia, Zeffy from Greece, Hettie from the UK and Janet also from the UK.

Janet was my recipient and I am pleased to hear that she got my little gift and ATC and so have Julia our Hostess for this whole Wednesday madness of desk snooping and hopping...as well as Gabrielle who I am the recipient of the PIF for which I am still waiting on our mail to get to me...Our mail out of here is quick, but the mail in, seems to take about a week longer...I think they do affirmative shopping so everything has to be picked over coming in...that is my opinion anyway...but it helps eak out the anticipation!
So far I have received this surprise gift of a butterfly album from Belinda Fernandes together with her ATC on the right and I have decided to make it into an album all about WOYWW and the friends I have made and so here is the start of it, with the ATC from Zeffy on the left.  I have used some of the brown tissue paper which Belinda wrapped her ATC in to cover my one page of the butterfly.
The above photo is an update as at 1:45pm here in South Africa...stop press:  Yvonne's and Hettie's ATCs and notes have arrived!  Yvonne's is the fish on the left done in Sparkling H2Os together with the beautifully illustrated card of  Emu's (very similar to our SA ostriches).  The ribbon and the WOYWW MAYHEM ATC are from Hettie in Wales...OH how generous everyone is with their time and their stash.  I am so unbelievably grateful.  It has made my day!

That is me for this week folks...see you at your desk soon. With or without Mr Linky!

Thanks for the visit

Off to the Scrap House to Demo Next

Hi there everyone

I am off to the Scrap House in Durbanville (c/o Mountain view and Culemborg cresc 2) next to do my free demo in their shop on Saturday 9 June from 10 till 12.  I look forward to "moving in" as I do for the two hours and sharing as much information as possible about the various Ranger products.   I pulled this photo off their Face Book site and I see I have lots of space to spread and you have lots of place to sit and drink coffee while I talk and talk and talk...all about what I love most... Tim Holtz products and techniques!

Thanks for the visit.

Class Notes from Saturday 2 June Demo

Hi there

I did a 2 hour plus demo on Saturday in a beautiful little shop called Basset Stationers and the Scrap Studio in Parklands.  I know I had everyone"s minds on information overload by the end of it all, so I thought I would put notes on two of the main topics I covered and you can see if this helps...Click on the images and they will enlarge so you can read the instructions better.

12 tags of 2012 - June

I had a marvelous morning at a shop in Parklands called Basset Stationers and The Scrap Studio where I did a demo for 2, no nearly 3 hours for a wonderful bunch of very interested ladies.  Only I was so busy chatting, showing and explaining that I quite forgot to take out my camera and get a few shots of everyone...That's what happens when I am having fun...

On to today's tag, well yesterdays tag really, but I was sleeping by the time Tim posted his tag with instructions so I only got to give it a go this evening , between cutting kids hair, making supper and general home activities.

I don't have any of those fabric flowers, but I have been on a convention recently where we got a whole lot of Tim stash that we were supposed to use on our page, but me, being me, changed the page and did not use all of it, and guess what?  I needed it for this tag...see, I knew there was a reason why I kept it, not just cos it was nice and I am "shnoep" (stingy - for those who don't speak South African) and wanted to spread it out over a few pages...I also used the Graphic 45 flower which we got and I bent it up to make it more dimensional and added some silk leaves from some fake flowers I have taken apart.  In other words, I have done a reverse of Tim's flower...

I also don't have any of those special nibs for the photo colouring, though I did look at them the other day and decided I didn't need them, how wrong I was, but I made do with Distress Markers in Peeled Paint and Spiced Marmalade and Distress Stain in Antique Linen which all worked just as well as what Tim did in the video.  Oh and I didn't make the tag as suggested, I used some of Tim's yummy packaging from the word keys instead.

As usual I have not suck to the tag rigidly, but done my own thing...that's what this is all about, changing it up to suit yourself! Learn and experiment.

Thanks for the visit
